This year’s 20th annual Louisiana State Police Troop D / Westlake Chemical Skills for Life Camp was held from June 19th through June 23rd at the Managan Center in Westlake, Louisiana. This free camp was attended by a total of 39 boys and girls who have completed the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade this school year. Louisiana State Police Troopers serve as camp counselors.
Campers are divided into four different groups and learn a variety of skills in a fun environment including firefighting, team building, first aid, woodworking, bike safety, and boating safety as well as interactive classes on nature and the environment. Campers spent some of their time at the Westlake Fire Department and Sam Houston Jones State Park as part of the learning experience.
The outstanding camper in each group was awarded a new bicycle and helmet with funding provided by the Louisiana Trooper Foundation. We are looking forward to partnering with Westlake Chemical for next year’s camp!
